Recently, a client came to us with a brilliant idea: she wanted to create a pair of vintage-inspired 14k yellow gold drop earrings featuring fiery round opals framed by brilliant accent diamonds. It was entirely her concept, and our master jewelers were thrilled to execute it.

As seen in the image, we took her ideas and drafted multiple design directions exploring different drop shapes, bail configurations, and vintage proportions. She ultimately guided the design toward a classic teardrop outer frame that perfectly suspends a vibrant, round bezel-set opal inside.
Step 2: Preparing the Raw Castings
Once her design was finalized, the components were cast in solid 14k yellow gold. In their raw form, the metal pieces are matte and unfinished. Each individual piece had to be meticulously cleaned, filed, and pre-polished by hand to ensure perfectly smooth surfaces and fluid movement.
Step 3: Precision Stone Setting
Next, the earrings were mounted into a traditional jeweler's pitch block to keep them perfectly stationary. Here, our master jeweler used tools to carefully set each individual diamond in the teardrop halo, executing her vision of a seamless border of brilliant light.

The final result is a stunning convergence of warm gold, glittering diamonds, and the neon-like glow of the natural opals.
