Breathing New Life into Old Heirlooms: The Ultimate Vintage Ring Stack
Jewelry is meant to be worn and loved, not hidden away in a safe. Yet, so many of us have heirloom pieces with gorgeous diamonds trapped inside outdated settings that simply don't match our personal style.
At Stark Jewelers, one of our favorite challenges is heirloom redesign. Recently, a client brought us a ring she had inherited but never wore. She loved the diamond, but the setting wasn't right for her. She wanted something vintage-inspired, versatile, and uniquely hers. Here is how we turned her unworn heirloom into a Stark-designed masterpiece just in time for the upcoming holiday season.
Step 1: The Extraction
The journey begins at the bench. In the image, you can see our master jeweler carefully cutting into the original yellow gold setting to safely release the diamond. Once the old band was opened on the mandrel, the beautiful heirloom diamond was finally free and ready for its next chapter.
Step 2: A Stark-Designed Vintage Vision
The client wanted a design that felt timeless but offered modern versatility. We crafted the new ring in 14k white gold, starting from a raw casting. To achieve the vintage aesthetic, the ring was meticulously hand-engraved to add intricate milgrain detailing around the diamond and along the band.
To ensure a brilliant, bright white finish that perfectly complements the vintage style, we finished the 14k white gold with a premium rhodium plating.
Step 3: The Power of the Stack
A single ring is beautiful, but a stack is fun. To give the client ultimate versatility, we designed two accompanying 14k white gold side bands.
The final result is a breathtaking three-piece set that perfectly blends heritage with custom craftsmanship. The true joy of this design is how it can be worn. The client can wear the center ring alone for understated elegance, pair it with one band, or wear all three for a bold, textured stack.
