Diamond Setting Process: The Final Reveal of our 3-Carat Custom Pendant (Part 3)

The moment of truth has arrived. Over the past two weeks, we’ve taken you behind the scenes of our Sacramento jewelry studio to witness the creation of a bespoke anniversary gift. We started with a loose 3-carat diamond and hand-fabricated an 18k yellow gold "JJ" initial frame. We seamlessly integrated a platinum head for maximum security.

Now, in the final installment of this series, it is time to bring the elements together.

The Art of Diamond Setting

Setting a diamond—especially one as significant as 3 carats—is one of the most high-stakes moments on the jeweler’s bench. In the image, you can feel the anticipation as the magnificent loose diamond rests on our jeweler's hand right next to the finished, empty pendant setting.

In the image, you get a close-up view of the empty platinum head mounted perfectly between the golden "JJ" loops. To secure the stone, the jeweler seats the diamond into the center, ensuring it is perfectly level. Then, using specialized jeweler's pliers, the durable platinum prongs are slowly and firmly bent over the crown of the diamond.

This process requires a delicate balance of strength and finesse. Our master jeweler uses his thumbs to feel the setting, checking for absolute symmetry and ensuring the stone is locked tight with zero movement.

The Finishing Touches

With the diamond securely set, there was one final step of fabrication. To ensure the pendant sat perfectly on the wearer's neck, we attached an elegant 18k yellow gold rope chain. In the image, you can see the jeweler carefully applying the torch to permanently solder the chain directly to the pendant's framework, creating a seamless and secure necklace.

Following a final multi-stage polishing process and an ultrasonic bath to make the diamond shine at its absolute brightest, the piece was complete.

The Final Masterpiece

The result is nothing short of breathtaking. The contrast between the warm, sweeping lines of the 18k yellow gold "JJ" and the explosive brilliance of the 3-carat diamond creates a piece that is visually striking and deeply meaningful. It is the perfect anniversary gift—a wearable legacy that will be cherished for a lifetime.
